Our Story
In Theory Construction is a family owned and operated professional construction company that specializes in creating beautiful outdoor living spaces for families to enjoy.
The owner and installer, Tom, has lived in Washington County Pennsylvania all his life. He has 30 years + in the construction industry. At In Theory Construction, 100% of our work comes through customer referrals – a testament to our quality services and customer service. This is our first year creating a website and advertising. We have several installs completed in the greater Pittsburgh area for references.
After installing several models of fiberglass pools on the market, Tom has partnered with Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools. The state-of-the-art processes, use of top-quality materials and having the leading gel coats and color technology in the industry, are just a few reasons Tom made the decision to use Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools for his pool projects. It is also very important to mention that Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools are made in the USA!
Our company began by focusing exclusively on masonry and concrete projects before expanding into high-quality hardscape projects such as retaining walls, and driveways. As our passion for outdoor design continued to grow, we eventually began coordinating and installing in ground fiberglass pool projects. All of our pool projects are completed in house. We do not subcontract the installation.

Our Process
Curious what that might look like? Follow along with our seven-step process which will take you from excavation through enjoying your own fiberglass pool.
Step 1: Fiberglass Pool Excavation
For accuracy, a design template in the exact size and shape of the pool you purchased will be used to layout the placement of your fiberglass in-ground pool. A dig print is used for the excavation that is specific to your pool’s design and shape. The hole is dug meticulously to avoid the need for back-fill and compacted to prevent unwanted settling.
Step 2: Pool Installation Delivery
Your fiberglass pool arrives at your home on a truck-trailer. Professionals will offload your pool from the trailer and lower it into place in the excavated hole after a compacted bed of gravel is prepared. Guide stakes, string lines, and laser levels will ensure accurate placement and leveling during the in-ground pool installation.
Step 3: Fiberglass Pool Leveling
After placing the pool on the gravel bed, the floor of the pool, the swimming pool installer will inspect it to ensure that there are no voids or humps that were formed during the placement. Water is then added to the pool simultaneously along with backfill. Continuous checking of the levelness of the pool is critical.
Step 4: Fiberglass Pool Plumbing and electrical
After water and backfill is added, the installer will connect the plumbing and electrical from the pool to the equipment pad location.
Step 5: Fiberglass Pool Deck Preparation
After water and back-fill have been completed, gravel is prepped for the surrounding pool deck. Typical decking includes concrete or pavers. Final leveling and shape adjustments and bonding are done at this stage.
Step 6: Fiberglass Pool accessories
At this point the concrete coping and decking are installed around the pool. The installer also will integrate accessories and features such as handrails, ladders, water bubblers and deck jets.
